Learn to Sew: Machine Basics — Beginner Sewing Class in North County San Diego

No experience needed. All materials provided.

New to sewing? This hands-on beginner sewing class is the perfect place to start — whether you’re an adult who’s never touched a machine or a parent looking for a fun sewing class for kids in San Diego. In one session, you’ll learn the fundamentals of machine sewing and go home with a finished pillowcase you made yourself.

Taught by Hannah of Modistra Sews, a Burda Style–certified sewing instructor with over ten years of sewing experience and eight years teaching adults and children throughout San Diego County, this class is designed to build real, lasting confidence at the machine.

What You’ll Learn in This Beginner Sewing Class

  • How to thread a sewing machine
  • How to wind a bobbin
  • How to sew a straight stitch
  • How to pivot a corner

These are the exact skills every sewist needs before moving on to garments, bags, or more advanced projects — which is why this class is the foundation of everything else we teach.

Everything Is Provided

No need to bring a thing — just show up ready to create:

  • Sewing machines
