You made a pillowcase — now let’s take those skills somewhere. In this class, you’ll sew a sturdy, classic flat tote bag you’ll actually want to use. It’s the perfect next step in your sewing journey: a little more structure than a pillowcase, with just enough new technique to keep things interesting and build your confidence at the machine.
We’ll start by cutting your fabric pieces accurately and getting them ready to sew. From there, you’ll learn how to sew clean, straight seams, reinforce the stress points that take the most wear (hello, handles), and finish the top edge so your bag looks as good as it feels. You’ll also get a proper introduction to ironing and pressing — one of the most underrated skills in sewing. Knowing when and how to press your seams makes a real difference in how your finished project looks, and it’s a habit that’ll follow you into every project after this one.
By the end of class, you’ll go home with a completed tote bag and a growing toolkit of skills you can build on in every sewing project ahead.
